Course Description:

<Lifelong learning in theory> is an introductory course for those who are in the master's and doctoral degree programs in various education-related areas, and at the same time, it can be helpful for students who want to re-examine educational issues from a lifelong learning perspective. In this lecture, (1) students will review the process of institutionalization of educational system in the modern society, which eventually emerged a characteristics of 'schooled society'; (2) trace the process of self-organizational process into 'learning society' by de-territorializing and re-territorializing the form of schooled society. (3) The course pays attention to the

process by which the discourse of 'lifelong learning' that has emerged worldwide since the 1990s has been institutionalized, replacing the previous discourses such as non-formal education, adult education, social education, or community education. (4) In particular, the course compares the lifelong learning systems since the 1970s between Europe and East Asia.(5) Lastly, the course develops new theoretical foundations by applying new contexts such as artificial intelligence, Industry 5.0, smart cities, post-humanism, new materialisms, etc.
