Guidelines for Credit Transfer (Including TOCFL for International Students)

According to the "National Tsing Hua University Credit Transfer Regulations for Students of the International Master’s/Doctoral Program (IPHD/IMS)":

Credits applied for transfer must be from "Master's or Doctoral level courses not counted toward the graduation requirements of the original university" and with a "grade of 70 or above." (A certificate from the original university proving that the credits were not counted toward graduation is required).

Non-program and non-NTHU courses: A maximum of 6 credits may be transferred.

Program courses (limited to course codes IPhD/IMS): Limited to courses taken within 5 years prior to admission; a maximum of 4 courses or 12 credits may be transferred.

The total number of transferred credits is capped at 12 credits.

Reminder: You may still submit a credit transfer application even if you apply for suspension this semester; the two do not conflict.

*A certificate from the original university proving the credits were "not counted toward graduation" is required. *One year of overseas Mandarin internship (Master’s program) can be transferred for credit. (For inquiries regarding Mandarin internships, please contact Mr. Hsieh).

  1. International students must take 8 credits of beginner, intermediate, or advanced Mandarin courses, or provide proof of Mandarin proficiency (TOCFL) to transfer 8 credits.

  2. Subject to the study regulations of each group (except for the Humanities Group; for inquiries regarding the Humanities Group, please contact Mr. Hsieh). International students who are non-native English speakers must still provide English proficiency test results; native English speakers will be reviewed by the program committee.
